I found a silver fifty cent piece dating 1856 (seated liberty) last summer while dredging the middle fork of the Yuba. It was sitting in the second to last riffle in the dredge. It was all black but you could read the date. I had it cleaned by a coin guy and it looks amazingly new. In the past I have found 2 ancient pick heads probably well over 100 years old. Been looking for a pick head for decades. Occasionally I'll get some platnium flakes and some are decent but you never know until you treat the gold with nitric acid to remove the mercury leaving you with clean bright gold and either palladium, rhodium, platnium, or any of the other um metals, I really don't know but I'm guessing platnium. Found some really big garnets in Alaska but just tossed them out of the pan, wish I would have kept some.

I guess I should have stated it as a question. I was wondering what other wild and wonderful treasures have you prospectors found other than gold?

Hi, I haven't found any other treasure, but a friend of mine who is the last full time prospector here in the BlackHills has found several old pickheads, an old 38 pistol from about the Depression era and an old Navy Colt 45. These were all found while working one of his claims. Hope I can find something like it on my claim some time.
