It has been determined that by wearing denim pants, 80% of snake venom is absorbed by the denim at the time of a snake bite. So, when you are out in the wild, wear full length denim pants and high top leather boots.

I got the info about denim from a news show. I was just passing it along. Yup, I know about "Gaters" and such, but hadn't heard 'bout any benefit from wearing denim reguarding snake bites. I've always worn denim pants, ever since I was a kid. Great protection from brush, low branches, scrapes from climbin' over fences, and dog slobber. LOL Denim is not recommended for absolute protection, just better than goin' bare legged. Thanks for that link, great products!

I do a lot of prospecting and treasure hunting on the river by my house. I see rattlesnakes nearly every day I go out. The problem I have is that I wear shorts and wading/fishing boots as I am in and out of the water all day long and it gets hot. I have found that of all of the snake protective clothing out there, snake gaiters are by far the most comfortable and just as effective as anything else out there. As far as the denim absorbing most of the venom, I am not so sure. I could imagine it does absorb some, but I think the real benefit would be the fact that in most cases there is a void between the pants and your leg. I am not taking any chances though, I wear my snake gaiters, of which I got at www.snakeproofgear.com/snake-gaiters, regardless of what I wear for pants.
