Wagonmaster Report – On the Vast Tongass Rainforest
“Sitting like a turquoise gem in a bowl of hemlock, Sitka spruce and ice, Berners Bay has long been a jewel of Alaska’s Tongass National Forest.” Wow, something I can relate to right here on the front page of the newspaper, and it was the Los Angeles Times! “Mine would bring jobs, backers say”. I swear that was the headline. What the HE double hockey sticks is going on! Am I dreaming? The opening line, the most important for any written work, sounded familiar. “Do I know this author?” I thought. No, it was a Kim Murphy straight from the source, B.B. Alaska. Did she go to see it for herself? Why so few pictures? Is this for real? I read on thinking, “This is gonna be a good one with an opener like that.” Read for yourself for its entirety and context. Monday, March 2, 2009 (page one).
To me this article seemed like an attempt to paint an honest view of both sides of the story, not a good tactic for a written piece. You have to be emotional and care about something to really make it a good effort. At least that’s my opinion. You almost have to take a side. Kim’s piece went off well though. I knew about the proposed mine from Gov. Palens’ race, I know Gold is going crazy world wide. I know a lot of it is still in Alaska waiting to be coined. The standards and restrictions placed on miners are very high so the real professionals rarely screw up now, they don’t want the bad press, you see, it’s bad for the stock prices. Remember “Erin Broke-o-Vetch”
The Nay-Sayers’ want you to remember. They are the typical gang of Star Bellied Sneeches, misguided do-gooders, self absorbed, narcissistic Politicos. They want you to think they are concerned about a bunch of Dolly Vardens and sticklebacks. Witch by the way are going to be corralled, fed and hoteled until the project is over and then will then be returned to there slightly shallower sub-alpine abode; a cost of the Project. That’s royal treatment! Why are these guys more important than thousands of Human people, just in Alaska that is, who make there living, for real, off the fat of the land?
Mr. Sierra Club is worried about setting the wrong precedent.” We wants the Money” is the precedent people. Kim’s recent helicopter tour of the bay was courtesy of Mr. Rod Cadmus of the Southeast Alaska Conservation Council. This type of dog and pony show isn’t cheap! Rod’s only appeasement was a hundred words or so in two paragraphs. I hope he enjoyed his vacation. You see what some fools donate there hard earned cash to? Don’t do it!
More amazing than all of that, are our allies who are also pushing for the mines. The Indians! Yes that is correct, the original Stewards of the Land. The Local Tribe affected has an 85% un-employment rate among adults. These Indians want jobs! Where is this place called Alaska? I thought I had it bad. I want to be an Indian Miner too. The Dirty Karucks should take a lesson from these Tlingit’s and Haida’s! They would probably have more money. There are too few stupid Casino goers in the real wilderness I guess.
The best thing about it all is that the score is written on the wall. The miners will prevail in this battle. We have strong allies, the place and time is right, and there is a pressident. Every real thing in life, all the roads, cars, houses, pipes, water, electricity and such comes from a hole in the ground. We need this stuff! Face it; it’s no good down there. And Gold actually is something useful, that’s why they call Gold and Silver “New Money”. It may be the old new money but it’s still the real deal. So to all the gold clubbers, swingers, recyclers and such that spend time prospecting – You need to tell a Little Bird what you think of this scenario. Perhaps even “Twitter” the Prez. yourself and tell him to tell a friend, to tell a friend, to tell them, “Let them Mine. We need the Money!” Who amongst us has Obamas’ E-Mail address? Perhaps he already reads the Wagonmaster Report? Can this message go sideways?
